A week after junior guard Kenny Boynton tweeted that he will return to Florida for his senior year, freshman forward Walter Pitchford announces that he will be leaving the program.
Pitchford made the announcement on Wednesday he will be transferring in order to be closer to his family. He is from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The 6’10”, 221 pound forward did not see too much playing time during the 2011-2012 season. He played a total of 22 minutes in 13 games, contributing six points and four rebounds.
With Pitchford leaving, the Gators now have an open scholarship for the 2012 recruiting class. Florida is in the process of pursuing Findlay Prep (Nev.) prospect Anthony Bennett to fill that spot. Bennett is a 6’7″, 230 pound forward.
