Gators Baseball Defeats Georgia Southern To Kick Off Home Stretch

The top ranked Gators baseball team is now 29 and 8 after a victory over Georgia Southern in Gainesville Tuesday night 8 to 2 to kick off a nine game home stretch. Eight of Florida’s nine starters contributed a hit during the game, led by junior Brian Johnson who matched his career high of five RBI’s with a three run homer in the first inning and a two run double in the seventh.

Gators pitching was very efficient with starter Greg Larson getting the win with three innings of work.   Sophomore Karsten Whitson, who has struggled a bit since his return from injury, worked a perfect eighth inning in his first career relief appearance. Florida head coach Kevin O’Sullivan was impressed with Whitson’s performance, pleased with the way he threw the ball.

The Gators will pick back up in SEC play starting Friday night at 7 as they host Georgia in the opener of a three game series.
