The Gator softball team was denied a tie for the SEC regular season championship on Sunday when it was beaten at Alabama 5-3. With the win, the Tide captures the SEC regular season championship.
Alabama (47-6) took two of three from Florida (44-10) in the much anticipated series and the Crimson Tide struck quickly on Sunday.
Gator starter Hannah Rogers lasted only 19 pitches in taking the loss; she gave up back to back singles to start the game, hit a batter, and then gave up a two run double. That’s when Gator coach Tim Walton pulled her from the game.
Alabama scored four total runs in the first inning and the lead held up despite a two run homer from Lauren Haeger and a solo shot by Kelsey Horton in the fourth inning but that’s all the scoring Florida would do on the day.
Florida next plays in the SEC Tournament Thursday at noon against LSU.
