Zunino Becomes Highest Drafted Gator Ever In MLB Draft

University of Florida junior catcher Mike Zunino became the highest drafted player in school history when he was taken third overall Monday in the Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners.   Pitcher John Burke was taken sixth back in 1991.

Pitcher/designated hitter Brian Johnson was also a first round selection, going to the Boston Red Sox with the 31st pick.

And some Gators signees also went in the first round as well; Texas took outfielder Lewis Brinson with the 29th pick while Houston selected pitcher Lance McCullers with the 41st overall pick.   The Cincinnati Reds selected outfielder Jesse Winker with the 49th pick.

The MLB Draft will continue today.
