** The University of Florida football men’s basketball team receives another verbal commitment as 6’9″ forward Schuyler Rimmer gives the program his verbal on Sunday. The Orlando native is the third verbal in the 2013 class as Rimmer joins guard Kasey Hill and forward Chris Walker in the class. He attends Orlando Boone High School.
** Jeff Gordon is a NASCAR winner again today after winning Sunday at Pocono Speedway in Pennsylvania. He gets his 86th career win but only his first this season. Kasey Kahne was second with Martin Truex Jr. third.
** We finally have NFL football as New Orleans downs Arizona in the annual Hall of Fame game as six new members of the Hall of Fame were also inducted.
** The Girls Babe Ruth 12 And Under Softball World Series continues today in Alachua after being severely impacted by rain over the weekend. Pool play begins today with the top three teams per divison advancing to the double elimination tournament; the two local teams, Santa Fe and Gainesville, have been eliminated.
** The Cincinnati Bengals have waived former Gator defensive end Derrick Harvey, a former first round pick by Jacksonville.
