The 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London proved to be a great place to be a Gator.
In this Olympic games, a Gator record 21 medals were won by 38 letterwinners. In all, UF athletes won nine gold, six silver, and six bronze medals in competition.
In all, 11 of the medals were won in swimming, six in track and field, three in soccer and one in tennis.
Of course, Ryan Lochte was the big individual winner, collecting five medals overall but not far behind were fellow swimmers Dana Vollmer with three and Elizabeth Beisel with two. In track, Will Claye won two medals, a silver in the triple jump and a bronze in the long jump.
Gator swim coach Greg Troy was the head coach of the U.S. Olympic Swim teams and Gator track coach Mike Holloway was an assistant with the U.S. Track team as well.
