The Tampa Bay Rays are playing great baseball of late and it continued Sunday as they beat the Minnesota Twins 7-3 to sweep a three game road series. The Rays have won six in a row and now lead the American League wild card race as well; they now go to Seattle to play tonight.
In other AL action, New York leads the Rays by five games in the AL East after losing at Toronto 10-7. Chicago leads Detroit by two games in the AL Central; Chicago downs Oakland 7-3 while the Tigers lose 8-3 to Texas. The Rangers lead the AL West by six and a half games over Oakland.
Baltimore leads the other wild card race after beating Kansas City 5-3. Seattle beat Los Angeles 4-1 and Boston hammers Cleveland 14-1.
In the National League, Washington leads Atlanta by four and a half games in the NL East; Atlanta lost 6-5 at New York while Washington lost 7-4 to Arizona. The Braves lead the first wild card race and will host San Diego tonight.
In other action, Cincinnati leads Pittsburgh by four and a half games in the NL Central; the Reds blank Chicago 3-0 as Johnny Cueto won his 15th game. The Pirates keep pace with an 11-5 win over San Diego. The Pirates have the lead for the second wild card spot.
San Francisco has a one game lead over Los Angeles in the NL Central; the Giants beat Colorado 9-6 while LA blanks Florida 5-0. In other games it was Milwaukee over Houston 5-3 and Philadelphia beating St.Louis 8-7.
