It has been a nice year for Tampa Bay Rays lefthander David Price this season and his good work continued Thursday as with him on the mound the Rays blank the Los Angeles Angels 7-0. The Rays now are tied for the wild card lead in the American League with Baltimore.
The Orioles lost at home to Boston 6-3 and the O’s will visit Detroit this weekend. The Tigers were idle Thursday. In other American League games, Chicago moves two and a half games ahead of Detroit in the AL Central with a 7-2 win over Toronto. And Oakland stops Kansas City 3-0 while Texas takes New York 10-6 as the Rangers lead the A’s by six games in the AL West.
In the National League, Chipper Jones homers twice on his bobblehead night and Atlanta knocks off San Diego 6-0. The Braves trail Washington by four games in the NL East but lead in the wild card chase. The Braves host Los Angeles this weekend while Washington hosts New York.
In the NL Central, Cincinnati loses to New York 8-4 while LA loses to Pittsburgh 10-6 as the Pirates trail the Reds by six games. The Reds will host Chicago this weekend while Pittsburgh plays at St.Louis.
In the NL West, Los Angeles leads San Francisco by a half game. The Giants were off Thursday and they start a series in San Diego tonight. In action Thursday, Milwaukee beats Philadelphia 7-4; Arizona nips St.Louis 2-1 and Colorado tops Miami 5-3.
