The Kansas City Royals pushed across a run in the top of the 10th inning to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 Tuesday night in St.Petersburg. A five game winning streak for the Rays goes by the boards but the team still leads the American League wild card race.
In other AL action, Baltimore is just a game behind the Rays after a 5-3 win against Texas; Chicago beats New York 7-3 behind a Kevin Youkilis grand slam; Los Angeles downs Boston 5-3; Detroit beats Toronto 5-3; Oakland beats Minnesota 4-1 and Seattle downs Cleveland 5-1.
In the National League, Stephen Strasburg was again dominant as Washington downs Atlanta 4-1 to increase its NL East lead over the Braves to seven games; the Braves do lead the wild card chase however.
In other NL games, San Francisco now has a game and a half lead over Los Angeles in the NL West after a win over the Dodgers last night. St. Louis blanks Houston 7-0; San Diego downs Pittsburgh 7-5; Colorado beats New York 6-2; Milwaukee downs Chicago 5-2; Cincinnati nips Philadelphia 5-4 and Miami edges Arizona 6-5.
