There were some shutouts thrown in big league baseball Tuesday night and all of them involve our so called “local” teams.
In the National League, the Miami Marlins rip Stephen Strasburg and beat the Washington Nationals 9-0 as Ricky Nolasco throws a complete game. Atlanta moves to within four games of the Nats in the NL East after a 2-0 win at San Diego.
In other NL games, Johnny Cueto wins his 17th as Cincinnati downs Arizona 5-2; Colorado tops Los Angeles 8-4; San Francisco edges Houston 3-2 to open a four game lead over LA in the NL West. Pittsburgh blasts St.Louis 9-0; New York tops Philadelphia 9-5 and Milwaukee defeats Chicago 4-1.
In the American League, Yu Darvish struck out 10 to help the Texas Rangers nip the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 in a classic pitchers duel. The Rays are a game and a half behind AL wild card leader Baltimore after the Orioles blank Chicago 6-0. The White Sox lead the AL Central by two games over Detroit after the Tigers lose 9-8 against Kansas City.
Oakland stays in the wild card hunt with a 7-0 win over Cleveland while New York nips Toronto 2-1; Seattle downs Minnesota 5-2 and the LA Angels beat Boston 6-5.
