The Baltimore Orioles used a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning by Nate McLouth to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 Wednesday night in Baltimore. The win keeps the O’s tied for first place in the American League East with New York, a 5-4 winner over Boston. The Rays fall three games off the lead.
In other AL action, Oakland beats Los Angeles 4-1 to maintain a two game lead in the wild card standings. Texas downs Cleveland 5-2; Seattle beats Toronto 3-2; Kansas City beats Minnesota 10-5 and Detroit moves to within a game of Chicago in the AL Central with an 8-6 win over the White Sox.
In the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies are making late playoff pushes. The Brewers beat Atlanta 8-2 to move within three games of the second wild card spot now held by St.Louis; the Cardinals lose 3-2 to San Diego.
Philadelphia meanwhile beats Florida 3-1 to win their seventh straight game and into a tie with Milwaukee with a 72-71 record. In other games, Washington blanks New York 2-0; Arizona downs Los Angeles 3-2 and San Francisco beats Colorado 8-3.
