Orioles Beat Mariners In 18 Innings; Tie For First In AL East

The Baltimore Orioles move into a first place tie with the New York Yankees in the American League East after outlasting the Seattle Mariners 4-2 in 18 innings Tuesday night.   The Yankees were rained out.

Tampa Bay continues to fold down the stretch; the Rays lose 7-5 to Boston to fall six and a half games behind in the AL East.

In other AL action, Los Angeles downs Texas 11-3 to close within six and a half games of the AL West leading Rangers and to within three and a half games of Oakland in the wild card race.   The A’s lost to Detroit 12-2.   Chicago beat Kansas City 3-2 to keep a three game lead on Detroit in the AL Central.   Minnesota beat Cleveland 6-5.

In the National League, Cincinnati’s magic number to clinch the NL Central is down to four after a 3-1 win over Chicago.   Miami downs Atlanta 4-3 as the Braves fall five and a half games behind NL East leader Washington who got rained out.   St. Louis has the second wild card lead by a game and a half over Los Angeles after beating Houston 4-1; the Dodgers were also rained out.

Milwaukee blanks sinking Pittsburgh 6-0; Arizona nips San Diego 3-2 and San Francisco downs Colorado 6-3.
