** The Eastside Rams will host Dunellon tonight in high school football at Citizens Field; the Rams come off a tough loss to Orlando Jones in their last game.
** Suspended outfielder Melky Cabrera has a chance to win the National League batting title despite a positive test for testosterone. He has 501 plate appearances, one shy of the required amount if the San Francisco Giants play all 162 games. But he could win the title if an extra hitless at bat is added to his average and it stays higher than anyone else.
** The NHL still is in lockout mode and the league has now postponsed September exhibition games; there are no talks scheduled between players and owners.
** Conference commissioners are still tweaking the new world of a college football playoff scheduled to start in two years. They are discussing the possibility of adding another game to be part of the semifinal rotation for the new playoff.
** The Gator football team will be without offensive lineman Matt Patchan who is still out with an injury. Gator coach Will Muschamp said Wednesday that defensive lineman Dominique Easley is questionable for the Kentucky game this week with a knee injury.
