** In local high school football, Eastside beats Dunnellon 22-16 Thursday night to improve to 2-2 on the year. Tonight, Gainesville High School hosts Lake Weir, Chiefland plays Union County, Buchholz travels to play Ocala Vanguard and Newberry is at Williston.
** The Gator football team will get a transfer that first played for the University of Nebraska; Tyler Moore made his decision t ocome to Florida after prepping in Clearwater and playing for the Cornhuskers his freshman season. He left the school to go to St.Petersburg College and will now be eligible to play next season as a sophomore.
** Texas Tech announced that men’s basketball coach Billy Gillispie is resigning after only one year at the school; he has had health problems and some of his players complained to the school administration that he was mistreating them as well.
** Arkansas starting quarterback Tyler Wilson has been cleared to play this week after sitting out last week against Alabama with a concussion.
** The New York Giants are now 2-1 after beating the Carolina Panthers 36-7 in NFL action Thursday night; the Panthers fall to 1-2.
