The Major League Baseball regular season is now over but it came down to the final day to determine the postseason lineup.
In the American League, New York wins the AL East after pounding Boston 12-2 Wednesday. Baltimore, chasing the Yankees, had to settle for a wild card as they lost 4-1 to Tampa Bay and three Evan Longoria home runs.
Texas collapsed big time in the AL West and has to settle for a wild card after Oakland beats them 12-5 to sweep the series to win the AL West. Baltimore now will travel to face Texas in the AL wild card matchup Friday. Oakland will face Detroit and New York will face the wild card winner.
In the National League, Atlanta hosts St.Louis in the wild card game Friday while on Saturday San Francisco travesl to face Cincinnati. Washington will host the wild card game winner.
And Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera becomes baseball’s first Triple Crown winner since 1967. He finishes the year with a .330 average, 44 home runs and 139 runs batted in.
