Two prominent college football programs face player arrests, local high school football steps up tonight and much more in our Friday Sports News And Notes…
** The football programs at nationally ranked TCU and at Missouri face player suspensions on the eve of their games on Saturday. At TCU, starting quarterback Casey Pachall was arrested and charged with a DUI and is suspended and at Missouri, wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham and two others are suspended for allegedly smoking pot near the school.
** Local high school football has several key matchups tonight. In Class 1A, Dixie County faces Union County and Chiefland takes on Newberry. Gainesville High School plays at Citrus County; Buchholz hosts Tallahassee Lincoln and local rivals St. Francis and Oak Hall also play. Last night, Eastside beat Belleview 35-14 to stay unbeaten in district play.
** In the NFL, Arizona is knocked from the unbeaten ranks by St.Louis in a 17-3 loss.
** The National Hockey League has cancelled the first two weeks of the regular season as a lockout situation continues and no talks are scheduled between players and the league.
** In college football last night, USC rallies to beat Utah and UCF takes out East Carolina 40-20 as the Golden Knights improve to 3-2.
** The University of Miami, already waiting on any action the NCAA might take against its athletic program, now will have to find a new athletic director as Shawn Eichorst resigns to go to the same position at Nebraska.
