The fourth ranked Gator football team remains unbeaten on the season after beating Vanderbilt 31-17 in Nashville Saturday night. Florida is now 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the SEC before the first BCS rankings are to be released Sunday night.
Florida got off to a slow start Saturday and spotted the Commodores a 7-0 lead before getting a touchdown, two point conversion and field goal to lead 11-7 at halftime.
The game may have turned in the third quarter; Vanderbilt had a long drive to start the second half but missed a field goal. Florida then went three and out but Gator coach Will Muschamp dialed up a fake punt and Solomon Patton ran a jet sweep around end that went inside the Vandy five yard line. Florida eventually scored on a touchdown run by quarterback Jeff Driskel and that potential 10 point swing proved pivotal to the outcome of the game.
Driskel was the offensive star of the game, running 11 times for 177 yards and all three Gator touchdowns while kicker Caleb Sturgis added three field goals. Still, all wasn’t good for the Gators as they were only 2 of 11 on third down and they were flagged for 10 penalties in the game.
The Gators now play South Carolina at home next week in a key SEC Eastern Division contest.
