Gators Go Looking for SEC East Title in Jacksonville

The second ranked and undefeated Florida Gators are headed to
Jacksonville to take on 10th ranked Georgia tomorrow in the annual Florida-Georgia football game.

One of the areas that Florida is trying for improvement is in the passing game and offensive Brent Pease says quarterback Jeff Driskel continues to develop.

Defensively, Florida’s ability to force turnovers has been a big key to its success this year. The Gators are currently ranked ninth in the nation in forced turnovers at plus 11.  Pease says the turnover margin is the only offensive statistic he cares about.

The Gators have not given up more than 20 points in a game this year while the Bulldogs are averaging just under 40 points per game. Gator defensive coordinator Dan Quinn says Florida will have to do a good job in containing talented Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray.

Weather could be a factor tomorrow as the Hurricane Sandy will skirt by the coast of Florida, likely causing windy and gusty conditions for the game.   Quinn talks about the possible impact of weather on the game.

Coming off an impressive performance against South Carolina last week is sophomore cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy.  Purifoy forced a fumble from quarterback Connor Shaw on the first offensive play and then another on the ensuing kickoff; he says that the defense focuses on forcing turnovers in practice.

Florida has become known as a second half team this year and junior cornerback Jaylen Watkins says that is because of the smart halftime adjustments the coaches make.

A win for Florida in this game would clinch the SEC East title and send the Gators to Atlanta in December for the SEC Championship Game.  A win for Georgia would put them in the driver’s seat for the SEC East crown.  The players know this is a big game and junior defensive tackle Dominique Easley says the team hasn’t counted Georgia out and will compete at a top level.

Kickoff is set for 3:30pm at Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville with coverage right here on ESPN 850/900 and also on our sister station 103-7 The Gator starting at 12:30pm with the 1st & 10 Pregame Show and the Extra Point Postgame Show following the game at 8pm.
