The 10th ranked Florida Gator men’s basketball team defeated the 22nd ranked Wisconsin Badgers 74-56 Wednesday night. The Gators from tipoff dominated and never looked back as Florida shot 61 percent from the floor going 26 of 42 and 50 percent from deep going 6 of 12.
The Gators held Wisconsin scoreless for the first five minutes of the game and never looked back.
Senior forward Erik Murphy led the way for the Gators scoring 24 points while grabbing eight boards. He didn’t miss a shot; in 33 minutes, he was 10 for 10 from the field including 2 of 2 from behind the arc.
Senior guard Mike Rosario chipped in with 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting. He also had four assists and four rebounds in 39 minutes. Senior guard Kenny Boynton struggled, scoring just 10 points on 3 of 9 shooting but he added six rebounds and three assists as well.
Wisconsin shot 35 percent from the floor, including going 7 of 24 from long distance. Leading the Badgers was freshman forward Jared Berggen and freshman forward Sam Dekker who each scored 11 points. Berggen also had six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
The Badgers turned the ball over only 10 times compared to Florida’s 20 but the Gators did out rebound Wisconsin 40-21.
Florida is now 2-0 0n the year while Wisconsin falls to 1-1; the Gators play Middle Tennessee State in Tampa on Sunday.
