There are several local high school football teams involved in state playoff games tonight.
However, one team played last night. Eastside High School defeated Anclote 37-0 in a Class 5A-Region 2 quarterfinal match up. Eastside had a stingy defense, not allowing a point and forced numerous turnovers. Eastside head coach Jeff Parker says he is very pleased with how well the defense played.
In games tonight, in Class 7A, Region 1 action, Buchholz travels to play Jackonsville First Coast.
Over in Class 6A-Region 2 Hernando High will travel to Gainesville to take on number one Gainesville High. Gainesville comes into tonight’s matchup sporting a 10-0 record and Canes coach James Thomson says his team is ready to show opponents why they are ranked number one.
Moving to Class 3A, Fort White will take on Orlando First Academy in the regional semifinals. And in other action, Class 1A will host three matchups as Jefferson County plays at number one ranked Trenton, Crescent City plays at number two Union County and number five Newberry travels to play Wildwood. Newberry coach Chris Baker says he is confident in the capability of his team.
Winners advance to games next week.
