** The San Francisco 49ers get a big Monday Night Football win over the Chicago Bears at home winning 32-7. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick makes his first start for the injured Alex Smith and throws for 243 yards and two touchdowns.
** Gator cheerleaders have been told they can no longer do tumbles or acrobatic stunts in the wake of an accident involving an Orlando Magic cheerleader recently where she lost her balance and fell on her head, fracturing three vertebrae. The University Athletic Association emailed a statement about the move saying in part “the danger associated with these types of stunts is simply not worth the risk to the cheerleaders or to the University of Florida…”
** The University of Miami announced a self imposed ban on postseason play as the investigation into alleged wrongdoing in the school’s athletic program continues.
** The University of Maryland will be moving to the Big 10 conference after a vote to move to the league was approved yesterday. Rutgers is expected to follow suit today and there are reports that BYU, San Diego State and Boise State may be looking to move back to the Mountain West Conference.
** The Florida men’s basketball team is now in the top ten after moving up to 7 in the Associated Press poll and to 8 in the ESPN Coaches poll.
