** The Washington Redskins move to within one game of NFC East leading New York with a 17-16 win over the Giants on Monday Night Football.   Washington is now 6-6.

** The Gator men’s basketball team continues to move up in the polls; UF is sixth in the AP poll and fifth in the ESPN Coaches poll.    Florida plays at Florida State Wednesday.

** The Gator women’s basketball team plays at home tonight when it faces Troy.   UF is 5-3 on the year.

** The finalists for the Heisman Trophy have been announced and only three are selected in quarterbacks Johnny Manziel and Colin Klein and linebacker Manti Te’o.    The award will be presented Saturday.

** South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has signed a two year contract extension that keeps him at the school until 2017.

** Several baseball players are changing addresses in this winter of free agency.   Catcher Mike Napoli signs with Boston while first baseman James Loney signs with Tampa Bay.
