** The Florida women’s basketball team hosts unbeaten Pacific tonight in the O’Connell Center. Florida comes off a win Tuesday at home against Troy while Pacific comes in at 7-0 on the season.
** Gainesville High School and Trenton High School are playing in the state football playoffs tonight. In Class 1A, number one Trenton faces number four Bratt Northview in Orlando while Class 6A number one Gainesville High school travels five hours away to face Navarre.
** Four Gator football players are named to the All-SEC Freshman Team; defensive linemen Jonathan Bullard and Dante Fowler, linebacker Antonio Morrison and offensive tackle D.J. Humphries are all named to the team.
** The Denver Broncos beat the Oakland Raiders 26-13 Thursday for their eighth straight win. Denver is 10-3 while Oakland is 3-10.
** Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o wins three awards at the College Football Awards Show in Orlando last night; he wins the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s best defensive player, the Walter Camp Award for Player of the Year and the Maxwell Award that signifies the nation’s best all around player.
** The Heisman Trophy is awarded on Saturday with quarterbacks Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M and Collin Klein of Kansas State up for the award along with Te’o.
