The Florida Gators will put their number five ranking and undefeated record on the line tomorrow night in Tucson when they take on the eighth ranked Arizona Wildcats. Pitting two unbeaten, top 10 teams, this matchup will pose a challenge for both opponents. But Gator coach Billy Donovan says their position in the polls isn’t what defines his team.
The Gators more than survived their first true road test of the season against Florida State last week, delivering the Seminoles a 74-49 rout. This week’s game against Arizona will be yet another test, but Florida forward Erik Murphy says keeping the right mindset is key.
Last season, Florida snagged an overtime win against the Wildcats 78-72. But both teams are noticeably different this time around. Florida’s defense has improved after giving up 40 percent shooting from 3-point range the past year. Now, Florida has yet to allow more than 66 points to any opponent this season. Arizona’s offense is distinct from a previous shooting team that left something to be desired. The Wildcats are averaging 79.3 points per contest, 28th in the country. Donovan says he expects this Arizona team to perform well on both sides of the court.
Despite the spotlight on this top 10 showdown, Gator forward Will Yeguete says the preparation for this game is like any other–centered around improvement above all else.
Tipoff is set for 10 p.m and you can hear the game live on ESPN Radio 850/900 starting at 9:25pm.
