The Gainesville High School boys basketball is back in action tonight against South Lake. GHS is coming off a 76-59 win against Buchholz on Thursday night. Junior Isaiah Jackson, averaging 13.4 ppg and 9.3 rebounds, leads the way for the Purple Hurricanes, who have two games on tap every week. Head coach Kelly Beckham says that Jackson is the kind of player you want on your team.
GHS will play Eastside on Friday at Santa Fe College. But Beckham says the team isn’t overlooking tonight’s game against South Lake.
Gainesville High is 11-7 overall, 3-2 in their district and Beckham says that his team has a good shot of moving on to the playoffs if they continue to improve.
Moving across town, the Buchholz High boys basketball team is coming off a loss to GHS last week, but are looking forward to their games this week against Tallahassee Lincoln tonight and P.K. Yonge on Friday night. Buchholz head coach Robert Horodyski says the team’s main focus is working on improvements on both sides of the ball.
Going into tonight’s game, Buchholz is 5-10 on the season, 0-4 in district play. While Buchholz is averaging 48.3 ppg, Lincoln is averaging 53.9. Friday’s matchup with P.K. Yonge is the second time the Bobcats have played them this year after winning the first matchup 52-39. Horodyski says the goal is to play to their potential and come out of games with a win.
Tip off for the Gainesville High game is set for 7pm tonight, while start time for the Buchholz game is 7:30pm.
