** The Boston Celtics received terrible news Sunday when they learned that their All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo would be out for the year with a torn ACL. Rondo was leading the NBA in triple-doubles and assists per game as the Celtics now try to hang on to the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.
** The Celtics did get a huge win Sunday, defeating the Miami Heat 100-98 in double overtime as Paul Pierce has a triple-double of his own. The Orlando Magic lost at home to Detroit 104-102, despite 31 points from J.J. Redick.
** Super Bowl hype is officially underway as both teams arrive in New Orleans today. Media Day is Tuesday with the game this Sunday between Baltimore and San Francisco.
** The Rock won his first WWE Championship in more than 10 years Sunday at the Royal Rumble, defeating WWE Champion CM Punk and ending his historic title reign of 434 days.
** Novak Djokovic won his third straight Australian Open men’s singles title by beating Andy Murray in four sets.
