There will likely be a lot of emotion and certainly a lot on the line tonight when the Gator men’s basketball team hosts Vanderbilt in its final home game of the season.
Florida will honor its three seniors tonight as Kenny Boynton, Erik Murphy and Mike Rosario will play their final games in the O’Connell Center.
Florida is also playing for an outright SEC regular season title which it will get if it defeats the Commodores and the Gators are also trying to finish unbeaten at home as well. The teams have not played yet this season.
Florida faces a Vandy team probably playing its best basketball of the season, having won its last three SEC games. The Commodores don’t score well but they do defend and when they do score, they still can hit from beyond the arc as they average making nearly eight 3’s a game while shooting almost 36 percent from long distance.
Defense has been a strength of Florida all year long as well as teams score just 53 points a game against UF. However, the Gators will be looking to regain their offensive touch, especially from beyond the arc; Florida is just 6 of 30 from long range in its last two games and head coach Billy Donovan worked with his team in practice to have them not watch players drive to the basket but to have them move to open spots to get good shots.
Donovan took note of the lack of assists (7) Florida had in its last game against Alabama and said than number must go up for the Gator offense to really click.
You can hear the game live tonight on Country 103-7 The Gator starting at 7:25pm.
