Florida was on a four game win streak until the Indiana Hoosiers came to Gainesville Friday night and that streak ended with a 4-1 Indiana win. Florida is now 7-8 on the year while the Hoosiers improve to 7-2.
Florida starting pitcher Jonathon Crawford gave up an early run and then cruised until the fifth when the Hoosiers scored two more times. Gator coach Kevin O’Sullivan says Crawford didn’t do his best.
Hoosiers redshirt sophomore Scott Donley hit a RBI single in the first for a 1-0 lead and the Gators quickly followed in the bottom of the inning when Vickash Ramjit tied the game with a lead off homer, his second homer of the year.
Indiana junior lefty Joey DeNato only allowed one run over 7.1 innings. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the third. Back to back singles by Cody Dent and Casey Turgeon and a walk to Justin Shafer got the inning started but then a strikeout and fly out ended it. O’Sullivan says the team needs to work on its offense.
Indiana used four straight singles in the fifth to build a 3-1 advantage and in the seventh the Hoosiers took a 4-1 lead as Donley provided another RBI single to bring in a run.
The Gators continue the series against Indiana today at 4pm.
