** The Miami Heat’s win streak is stopped at 27 after the Chicago Bulls beat Miami in Chicago 101-97 on Wednesday. The Heat fall six games short of tying the 1971/72 LA Lakers for the all-time best win streak in NBA history.
** The Madness continues as the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men’s Tournament starts today. Miami will play today against Marquette, Syracuse faces Indiana, LaSalle faces Wichita State and Arizona tangles with Ohio State.
** Former Gator assistant and current VCU coach Shaka Smart has agreed to a contract extension to remain the coach at the school. Smart’s name had surfaced for openings at UCLA and Minnesota.
** A nice WNIT run continues for the Florida women’s basketball team. It used a Jaterra Bonds jump shot with three seconds left to beat Charlotte 67-65 on Wednesday. Florida next plays at James Madison on Saturday.
** The Gator men’s swim team begins action in the NCAA Championships today in Indianapolis.
** In NFL news, as expected, the Atlanta Falcons sign former New York Giant Osi Umenyiora to a contract. The defensive end signed a two year deal.
