Gators fall in WNIT semifinals

The Gator women’s basketball team was defeated by Drexel University Wednesday night 67-57 in the semi-finals of the WNIT. The Dragons dominated in most facets of the game as they shot 49 percent from the field, went 8-for-18 from three and dominated the glass, gathering eight more boards than the Gators. Although Florida wasn’t able to pull out the victory, UF head coach Amanda Butler said that she’s proud of the way the Gators persevered throughout their postseason run.

Sydney Moss led the Orange and Blue, notching a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. The freshman has sparked the Gators during their WNIT run, averaging over 19 points and eight rebounds. Butler said that players such as Moss have helped ignite their end of the year push.

The Gators will lose senior Jennifer George, Florida’s all-time leader in games played, but the rest of the roster is eligible to return. Some talented newcomers are also on the way for next season.

UF ended its season this year at 22-15.
