A Gator is drafted in basketball, baseball news, and the Miami Heat win again… all in our Tuesday Sports News and Notes…
** Florida women’s basketball saw its lone senior, post player Jennifer Georgie, drafted in the third round of the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever.
** The Tampa Bay Rays fell to 4-8 after a 3-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox. The Florida Marlins are now 2-11 after a 10-3 loss to Washington. The Atlanta Braves are 11-1 and play Kansas City tonight.
** The Miami Heat edge the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-95 as the Heat rested many of its star players. Only one more regular season game is left on the schedule. Meanwhile, a miserable year is nearly over for the Orlando Magic as they lost to Chicago 102-84.
** To the surprise of few, Kentucky big man Nerlens Noel and Georgia guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope declared for the NBA Draft. Noel could be the top player chosen. Also leaving school early is Georgetown’s Otto Porter.
** With the movie “42” now in theaters, Major League Baseball celebrated Jackie Robinson Day Monday as all big league players wore No. 42.
