The NFL Draft continues, the NBA playoffs continue and some baseball news in our Friday Sports News and Notes…
** The NFL Draft continues today in New York after completion of the first round on Thursday. Two Gators, defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd and safety Matt Elam, were taken in the first round.
** The first player taken in the draft was offensive lineman Eric Fisher from Central Michigan by Kansas City. The Miami Dolphins traded to move up to the third pick to select linebacker Dion Jordan of Oregon while Jacksonville with the second pick selected offensive lineman Luke Joeckel from Texas A&M.
** The SEC was well represented in the first round; of 32 players selected, 12 were from the SEC; FSU also had three players taken in the first round in quarterback E.J. Manuel (Buffalo) defensive end Bjoern Werner (Indianapolis) and defensive back Xavier Rhodes (Minnesota).
** The NBA playoffs continue and the defending champion Miami Heat have pushed the Milwaukee Bucks to the brink of elimination with a 104-91 win in Milwaukee on Thursday. Game 4 will be in Milwaukee with the Bucks down 3-0 in the best of seven series.
** In Major League Baseball, Atlanta has a baseball best 15-6 record and will play an interleagaue series at Detroit this weekend. Miami lost to the Chicago Cubs 4-3 and Tampa Bay loses to the White Sox 5-2.
