The Florida Gators beat the Ole Miss Rebels 2-1 late Friday evening to move on the final round of the SEC Soccer Tournament. The Gators were able to score two early goals and held on for the win.
SEC Offensive Player of the Year Savannah Jordan would get the first goal after she sprung open in the box and finished a ball from Havana Solaun. Solaun would get the second goal herself after she kicked a penalty kick less than 10 minutes later. The Rebels didn’t wait long to strike back as Jennifer Miller’s strike in the 29th minute would put them down one.
The second half differed immensely from the first as the scoring was shut down by both teams, but that’s not to say the chances weren’t there, just ask Gator coach Becky Burleigh.
“Especially in the second half, the only thing we didn’t do very efficiently was finish. We had a lot of really good opportunities and I would have liked to have seen us get a few more goals. At this stage, it’s about win and move on,” said Burleigh.
The Gators will play again on Sunday as they face off against Texas A &M in the final. The Gators and Aggies have already faced off once this season as the Gators got the best of them in James G. Pressly Stadium beating A&M 2-0. The match is set to kick off at 2 pm and can be seen on ESPN U.
