Florida Football Hosts Georgia Southern

The Florida football team is currently in the midst of a slump during their five-game losing streak, the longest such streak since UF dropped nine in a row during the 1979 season.

The Gators (4-6, 3-5 SEC) will look to reverse that recent trend when the Orange and Blue welcome the Georgia Southern Eagles to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Georgia Southern is 6-4 on the season are are 4-4 in the Southern Conference under head coach Jeff Monken. In Monken’s three seasons, he has led the Eagles to a 31-12 record. In their last time out, the Eagles wrapped up conference play with a 38-20 win over Elon.

Georgia Southern runs a triple option attack. They average over 468 yards of total offense and average over 36 points per game. Georgia Southern averages around 360 yards on the ground and has scored 38 rushing touchdowns.

On defense, the Eagles allow over 350 yards per game but have been able to hold opponents to about 21 points per contest.

UF has faced Georgia Southern twice and has collected wins in both matchups. The Gators won 38-14 in 1986 and trounced the Eagles 62-14 in 1996.

Florida will be without the services of offensive lineman D.J. Humphries and cornerback Marcus Roberson because of injury and quarterback Tyler Murphy may miss his second straight game because of a shoulder injury.

Kickoff between the Gators and Eagles is set for 2pm.
