The University of Texas has a new football coach, the NFL playoffs begin and more in our Monday Sports Update.
** Former Gator assistant and Louisville head football coach Charlie Strong has accepted the same position with Texas, replacing Mack Brown. A news conference is scheduled for today to formally introduce Strong.
** The NFL wild card weekend was indeed wild as three road teams came away with wins. On Sunday, visiting San Diego drops Cincinnati 27-10 and visiting San Francisco kicks a last second field goal to beat Green Bay 23-20.
** The Gator football team welcomes at least seven early enrollees to classes Monday, including quarterback Will Grier and defensive back Duke Dawson.
** Florida gets its 20th verbal commitment in the 2014 class when offensive lineman Kavaris Harkless gave his pledge to Florida; he is from Jacksonville.
** Several top college football players are entering the NFL Draft early, including UCF quarterback Blake Bortles who helped lead the Knights to their best season highlighted by a Fiesta Bowl win.
** Miami Hurricanes football coach Al Golden is staying in Coral Gables and not pursuing the vacant Penn State job. Golden's alma mater is Penn State.
** The Miami Heat are now 26-8 after beating Toronto 102-97 Sunday as Lebron James scores 30 points.
