Florida vs. Arkansas Gymnastics Preview

The top ranked Florida gymnastics team returns to Gainesville to play host to the 11th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday.

The Gators are continuing SEC meets after a road win against Kentucky last weekend.

Florida had an impressive showing at Kentucky beating the Wildcats 197.175 to 195.45. It marked the third week that a Gator has scored a perfect 10. This time it was Bridget Sloan on beam.

Sloan’s 1o on beam was her second perfect score of the season, with the first one coming on floor. Sloan is now the second Gator ever to score a 10.0 on the balance beam, and is the only Florida Gator gymnast to earn a 10.0 in multiple events. Sloan also took home the all-around for her fourth consecutive win, leading to be named the SEC Gymnast of the Week for the fourth consecutive week.

“There’s never really any added pressure to try and score a 10,” said Florida head coach Rhonda Faehn. “Every single time the athletes get out there, their goal is to try to reach as near close to perfection as possible.”

The Gators will begin a two-meet home stand against the Razorbacks who are coming off of a loss, but posted their highest score of the season with a 196.275.

“We’re really looking forward to being home this weekend and hosting Arkansas,” said Faehn. “It should be a really great competition and I know our athletes are getting excited to once again compete at home in front of our fans.”

The meet Friday features the top two all around scorers in the country in Sloan, who is ranked number one, and Arkansas standout Katherine Grable who is ranked number two while collecting five all around titles this year.

Florida is 9-2 against Arkansas under head coach Rhonda Faehn and 21-2 all time. Last year when the two teams met, the Gators beat the Razorbacks 197.575 to 196.175.

Meet time is set for 7pm in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
