The Madness has begun, a big night for LeBron James, Tiger pulls out of a tournament and more in our Wednesday Sports Update…
** March Madness is underway! In two play-in games last night, Albany downs Mount St.Mary’s 71-64 while NC State advances to play St.Louis after a win against Xavier; Albany will now face Florida on Thursday. Tonight, two more play-in games as Tennessee faces Iowa and Cal Poly plays Texas Southern.
** A new basketball coach at Auburn as former Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl returns to the SEC to coach the Tigers. Auburn still has to file a report with the NCAA as to whether or not they accept or contest an existing a show cause penalty barring Pearl from recruiting until August.
** Tiger Woods will not play in Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Classic because of continued back problems; he is an eight time winner at the event.
** LeBron James goes back to his old stomping grounds in Cleveland to help the Miami Heat beat the Cavs 100-96. King James scored 43 in the win, including 25 in the first quarter alone.
** Phil Jackson makes it official; he is returning to the New York Knicks as team president; he played for the Knicks and was a member of two world champion teams for the club in the 1960’s and 70’s.
** The Gator lacrosse team beats Dartmouth 14-7 to up its record to 9-2 on the season.
