A lot happening today in our Tuesday Sports Update…
** The United States gets a huge win in the World Cup over Ghana 2-1 yesterday. After scoring less than 40 seconds into the match, the U.S. saw Ghana tie the score late but the Stars And Stripes also scored a late goal to get the win and the points. Portugal is next for the United States.
** Gator football great Larry Dupree has died from a heart attack at the age of 71. He played running back at Florida during the 1960’s and was a one time teammate of Gator quarterback Steve Spurrier.
** The baseball world mourns the loss of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn who died Monday from cancer at age 54. Gwynn was a 15 time All-Star, played in two World Series and never hit below .309 in a full season.
** In baseball yesterday, Tampa Bay beats Baltimore 5-4 while the Chicago Cubs beat Miami 5-4 and Atlanta lost 6-1 to Philadelphia.
** Former Gator pitcher Anthony DeSclafani has been called back up to the Miami Marlins from AAA New Orleans.
** In the College World Series, Louisville is the first team eliminated after losing to Texas while Vanderbilt wins its second straight game, beating UC Irvine 6-4. Tonight, TCU plays Virginia and Ole Miss faces Texas Tech in an elimination game.
