** The second no-hitter of the baseball season is thrown on Wednesday night as Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw beats the Colorado Rockies 8-0. Kershaw fanned 15 in the win; the other no-hitter this year was thrown by his teammate Josh Beckett.
** In other baseball results, the Tampa Bay Rays lose 2-0 to Baltimore and now begin a series with the Houston Astros. The Miami Marlins lose 6-1 to the Chicago Cubs and begin a series with the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves lose 10-5 to Philadelphia and they will start a series with Washington.
** In the College World Series, UC Irvine is eliminated by Texas in a 1-0 game. Vanderbilt and Ole Miss are still alive in the tournament.
** Defending World Cup champion Spain is out of this year’s tournament after losing to Chile 2-0.
** The United States Patent and Trademark Office has canceled the Washington Redskins team trademark, calling it “disparaging to Native Americans.” This was done back in 1992 but the decision then was overturned on appeal.
** In NCAA football news, a panel has been put together to discuss the possibility of an early signing period in college football. The College Commissioners Association formed the panel.
