A huge vote in the NCAA, The PGA Championship is underway, the Atlanta Braves continue to struggle and of course, Gator football news in our Thursday Sports Update…
** The Gator football practices today and tomorrow will be open to the public; you can see the Gators starting at around 7:40pm at the Dizney Lacrosse Complex.
** There will be a vote today on a proposal that would give the so called “Power Five” conferences more autonomy in making decisions concerning their schools and their athletic programs. If passed, this would take effect in January, 2015.
** The last major on the PGA Tour, the PGA Championship, is now underway at Valhalla. Tiger Woods is playing. Former Gators Billy Horschel and Matt Every are also in the field.
** In baseball, the Atlanta Braves have now lost eight straight after Seattle beat them 7-3 Wednesday. The Braves are off today.
** The Tampa Bay Rays beat Oakland 7-3; they’re off today before playing the Chicago Cubs this weekend. The Miami Marlins lost 7-3 to Pittsburgh and those teams play again today.
** Play continues in Alachua today for baseball and softball championships with teams from all over the country participating in the 11-12 year old classification.
