Thursday Sports Update (9/25)

In our Sports Update today, one more baseball team clinches a division title, good news for NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, NFL news and more!

** The Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the National League West division title after beating San Francisco at home last night.   Pitcher Clayton Kershaw gets the win, his 20th this season.

** In other action, Detroit clinches a postseason berth with a 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox while Boston crushes Tampa Bay 11-3.   Atlanta slows Pittsburgh 6-2 and Miami loses 2-1 to Philadelphia.

** Race car driver Tony Stewart was not indicted by a grand jury in New York in the death of a fellow driver on a race track back in August.  Toxicology reports indicated the deceased driver, Kevin Ward Jr. was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident.  A civil suit against Stewart is still possible.

** The Florida football team got an apology from former Gator Emmitt Smith, who tweeted after last week’s loss to Alabama that he wanted Gator quarterback Jeff Driskel replaced.

** FSU quarterback Jameis Winston is back in the news.   Various media reports say a settlement was discussed between Winston’s attorneys and the attorneys for a woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by the FSU player.

** The NFL Thursday Night game finds the New York Giants facing the Washington Redskins.
