** The Minnesota Twins fire long time manager Ron Gardenhire and the Houston Astros name A.J. Hinch as their new manager. Former Gators Cole Figueroa (Tampa Bay) and Nick Maronde (Cleveland) were recalled to the big league roster by their respective teams.

** The woeful Oakland Raiders have fired coach Dennis Allen after the team gets off to an 0-4 start to the season.
