After kicking off their 2014 SEC schedule an undefeated 2-0 with sweeps at Auburn and against Ole Miss, the ninth ranked Gator volleyball team (8-3, 2-0 SEC) will hit the road for a two-match road swing at LSU and Mississippi State this weekend.
LSU is 5-6 overall and 0-2 SEC while Mississippi State is 5-12 overall and 0-2 in SEC action.
In the league, LSU has lost 3-1 against Kentucky and at Alabama, while the Bulldogs lost in straight sets on the road at Missouri and Arkansas in the opening weekend of conference play.
The Orange and Blue lead the series with the Tigers, 37-13, including 34-5 under head coach Mary Wise. Florida has won seven straight against LSU. The Gators are undefeated against the Bulldogs, including a 21-0 mark in Starkville. They are 43-0 in the all-time series, and 34-0 under coach Wise.
Two of the biggest keys to the Gators success are freshmen Rhamat Alhassan and Carli Snyder, and their growth in blocking.
“I think Rhamat’s going to get a lot of attention,” Wise said. “And Carli as well, from their offense. But I think the coaching staff will tell you what we’re most excited about is their blocking, and the improvements they’ve made in their blocking just in this first month.”
Senior libero Holly Pole is also looking for another strong performance, after earning SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors last weekend.
You can catch both matches on ESPN 850 WRUF.
