The University of Florida football team, needing a win for its confidence and perhaps for its coach, used a punishing ground game to beat Georgia 38-20 Saturday night in Jacksonville.
With the win, Florida improves to 4-3 overall and to 3-3 in SEC play.
The Gators win despite throwing only six passes in the entire game but they did not need to with the dynamic rushing duo of Matt Jones and Kelvin Taylor, who combined to rush for 389 yards with each player scoring two touchdowns as well.
Georgia jumped out to a 7-0 lead and looked to add to it but a 40 yard field goal was wide left and after that, the Gators seized the momentum. Florida scored 31 unanswered points to take a 31-7 lead it would never relinquish.
Georgia quarterback Huston Mason threw for 318 yards in the loss and freshman running back Nick Chubb ran for 156 yards but he also had a key fumble in the second half that the Gators recovered.
Florida continues SEC play next week with a game at Vanderbilt.
