Reigning SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week Alex Holston will help lead the seventh ranked Florida volleyball team into a mid-week clash against Auburn Wednesday night, as Florida re-matches with the Tigers (11-14, 3-9 SEC) after opening SEC play with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-19, 25-19) in Alabama on September 26th.
Wednesday’s match will be Florida’s second-to-last home match of the regular-season slate prior to NCAA Tournament play.
Florida (19-3, 13-0 SEC), which ranks fourth in the country with its .312 hitting efficiency this season, is riding a 14-match win streak, its longest streak since 2012.
The Gators are undefeated in conference play at 13-0 with just five matches remaining, including a visit to 15th ranked Kentucky Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats are second in the SEC race behind the Gators with an 11-2 conference record thus far.
Florida head coach Mary Wise credits Holston’s ability to learn on the move as a key to the team’s success this season.
“It’s her knowledge of the game that she continues to expand,” Wise said. “And obviously it has been a part of our success.”
The Orange and Blue enter the match-up with the Tigers having won 21 straight sets dating back to October 15th at South Carolina, including six straight sweeps.
Florida has 11 SEC sweeps and has dropped just two sets in conference play.
Florida leads the all-time series, 42-1, and are 38-0 under head coach Mary Wise.
The teams will clash Wednesday night at 7 p.m. You can catch Wednesday night’s match on ESPN 850 WRUF starting at 6:50 pm.
