South Carolina quarterback scored on a four yard quarterback keeper in overtime to lift the Gamecocks to an improbably 23-20 win over Florida Saturday in Gainesville that eliminates the Gators from any chance of winning the SEC East.
Florida seemed to have the game won in regulation but after taking a delay of game penalty with less than a minute to go in the game, Gator punter Kyle Christy had a punt blocked and Carolina took over at Florida’s 34 yard line.
With just 12 seconds to go in the game, Gamecock running back Mike Davis fumbled the ball at the Florida two yard line but he recovered the ball in the end zone and the extra point tied the game.
In overtime, Florida kicked a field goal but when Thompson ran the ball in for the touchdown, the Gators were beaten.
Florida falls to 5-4 overall and ends up 4-4 in SEC play. Next week, Florida hosts Eastern Kentucky.
