The search continues for a new Gator football coach, more college football news, NFL, and more Gator news in our Tuesday Sports Update…
** The search perhaps intensified after the regular season ended in college football this past weekend for a new football coach at Florida to replace Will Muschamp. Several media outlets have mentioned Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze and Colorado State coach Jim McElwain as two coaches high on the list to replace Muschamp.
** The Florida football team loses offensive lineman Drew Savary after posting on his Facebook page that his career is over because of concussion symptoms. The Gainesville Sun is reporting that junior running back Matt Jones has decided to leave school early to enter the NFL Draft and a few other Gator juniors are also pondering the same move.
** The new College Football Playoff Committee rankings come out today. Most expect Alabama, Oregon, FSU and TCU to be the top four teams in some order.
** The Gator women’s basketball team is now 5-1 after crushing Virginia Tech 73-44; UF plays Savannah State Thursday.
** The Gator men’s basketball team drops out of the national rankings after a 3-3 start to the season. Florida next plays at nationally ranked Kansas Friday.
** The Miami Dolphins get a sloppy 16-13 win over the New York Jets on Monday Night Football to stay alive in the AFC playoff chase.
** The Miami Heat fall to the Washington Wizards 107-86 on Monday; Orlando had the night off.
** Outfielder/designated hitter Nelson Cruz will apparently leave the Baltimore Orioles to sign with the Seattle Mariners.
