UF Football Has New Defensive Coordinator

December 16, 2014

New Gator football coach Jim McElwain has made the first hire on his new staff.

Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins will take the same position with the Gators.

The hire was first reported by Sports Illustrated at SI.com.

Current Gator defensive coordinator DJ Durkin is Florida’s interim head coach for the Gator bowl game on January 3; he is scheduled to speak to the media on Thursday.

Collins and McElwain both served on the Alabama staff under Nick Saban in 2007.

Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen spoke to the media today in Starkville and said he didn’t like anyone leaving his program “for what I would view a lateral move to be perfectly honest.”
