** The Florida men’s basketball team brings a 7-6 record into its SEC opener tonight at South Carolina. You can hear the game live on Country 103-7 The Gator at 6:25 pm.
** The SEC slate opened for other league teams last night and top ranked Kentucky got a scare at home from Ole Miss as the Wildcats escape with an 89-86 win. In other games, Alabama rips Texas A&M 65-44; Vanderbilt beats Auburn 64-52 and Arkansas rallies to beat Georgia 79-75.
** In Gator football news, linebacker Antonio Morrison announced on Twitter that he will return for his senior season. The Gainesville Sun is reporting that freshman defensive lineman Gerald Willis has been dismissed from the team. And, several reports say former Florida defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will go to the staff of Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.
** When Ohio State and Oregon play for the national title in college football on Monday, parents and families of the players will be reimbursed for travel by both the NCAA and the College Football Playoff.
** There are four new Hall of Fame members in Major League Baseball today after pitchers Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and infielder Craig Biggio were all voted in by the Baseball Writers Association yesterday.
** In the NBA, Orlando is at Denver today while Miami is off.
