A big win for Gator men’s basketball, more SEC hoops, a local women’s basketball team forfeits games and more in our Wednesday Sports Update…
** The Gator men’s basketball team nearly blows a 13 point halftime lead but hangs on to beat Alabama 52-50 to move to 4-3 in SEC play. Next up a home game with Arkansas Saturday.
** In other SEC men’s basketball, Arkansas beats Tennessee 69-64; Georgia knocks off Vanderbilt 70-62 and Texas A&M downs Auburn 71-61. More games scheduled for tonight.
** Florida’s annual Orange And Blue scrimmage game will be played on April 11th this year. And ESPN has Florida among a handful of schools it will report from live on National Signing Day next week.
** The LPGA’s first national event of the season kicks off today in Ocala. The tournament will run through Saturday.
** The Gainesville Sun reports today that the Buchholz women’s basketball team has been using an ineligible player and the school has asked for all of its games this year to be forfeited.
** In the NBA, Milwaukee downs Miami 109-102. Both Miami and Orlando have the day off today.
** Major League Baseball officially welcomes a new commissioner as Rob Manfred takes over for long time commissioner Bud Selig.
